Bio

Hello Parents and Students,

I am Mrs. Ferguson, your 8th grade science teacher for this school year. I am a dynamic educator with more than 17 years of teaching experience. My expertise includes my interaction and successes working with hundreds of students and their families over the years. I have attained a Bachelors degree in Pre-Med Biology, a Masters in Middle Grades Education, and an Educational Specialist degree in Curriculum, Instruction, Management & Administration.

I easily connect with young, eager learners and my aim is to grow the next generation of innovators, problem-solvers, and creative thinkers. My goal is to make STEM learning and experiences accessible to all learners, especially minority and underrepresented students. It is natural for me to facilitate students while they engage in STEM activities and I never shy away from sharing my own mistakes as a teaching moment if it helps my students discover and develop their 21st century skills! I am motivated by learners who may not at first instance, be as confident in their own STEM abilities. Much of my success with students depends on meeting each student where he/she is and helping him/her realize their potential.

Creating a safe and comfortable classroom environment for each of my students is important, and I love to fill it with my infectious laughter, sense of humor, positive attitude, and team building approach. I rely on and value the support of parents and my professional peers. As a teacher leader, I capitalize on every opportunity to positively impact each student (and adult) I interact with—I love to learn, just as much as I love to teach! I am enthusiastic about mentoring young at-risk girls and encouraging all children to tap into their creativity and imagination, rise above challenges, set attainable goals, and explore all the STEM opportunities available to them.

“We are a sum total of what we have learned from all who have taught us, both great and small.”
